Claude Debussy, arranged by Marc Nethercot
Instrumentation: Brass Band
Length: 5 Minutes
Difficulty: A Grade
Taken from the third movement of 'Suite bergamasque' by Claude Debussy, a piano depiction of a Paul Verlaine poem, Clair de Lune (literally 'moonlight') is among the French impressionist composer's most famous works.
Used more recently, fully orchestrated, for the motion picture Ocean's Eleven (and also heard in snippets in the two sequels) this beautiful example of late nineteenth century impressionism has found an appreciative modern audience.
In his arrangement Marc has gone back to the original piano score, manipulating it to take advantage of the colours and strengths of the brass band. Challenging for any ensemble or conductor, and a wonderful interlude in any concert programme.
