Definitions was written in 2005 and was Fendall's first foray into the contest solo arena despite an abridged version of his concerto having been used as a set test solo in Australian and New Zealand national contests.
The intention for Definitions was to be "fun to play and fun to listen to", and it has proven to be challenging.
It was the set solo for the Australian soprano cornet championship in 2010 and one of the set solos for the New Zealand soprano cornet championship in 2009. It has been performed by Fendall at both the New Zealand and Australian Champion of Champions competitions - receiving special commendation in both cases.
