Josh Geddes
Originally from the Victorian country city of Sale, Joshua Geddes BMus (VCA) grew up in the local brass band. He played all the brass instruments before deciding to specialise on Trumpet and French horn.
He studied French Horn at the Victorian College of the Arts graduating in 2006. While completing his studies, he also studied conducting with Dr. David Kram and Dr. Barry Bignall. Since completing his degree he has completed conducting courses with the Grainger Wind Symphony under the guidance of Roland Yeung, Melbourne Youth Music with John Hopkins and Benjamin Northey and he attended the Varna International Conducting Workshop in Sofia, Bulgaria with Dian Tchobenov. He has been the Musical Director for the Hyde St. Youth Band (2003-2005), the City of Glen Eira Band (2004-2007) and the Bendigo Youth Brass (2008- current).
As an instrumentalist, Joshua has played in many leading and diverse ensembles around Melbourne and appeared as soloist in Edward Gregson’s Concerto for French Horn and Brass Band with the Footscray Yarraville City Band. He was a member of the Melbourne Youth Orchestra and has performed with the Australian Army Band Melbourne and the 4/19th Prince of Wales Light Horse Band. As well as this, he is in regular demand as a pit musician both on French Horn and Trumpet.
He is sort after to present masterclass’ across Victoria and is known for his enthusiasm when it comes to music performance. This lead to an invitation in May 2007 to conduct a workshop with the King Island Concert Band in Tasmania.
He is currently a brass teacher in 5 schools in Bendigo, teaching students from aged 8 and above.
